VOCABULARY CONNECTED WITH CONSERVATIONISM

autotroph(self-feeding) is an organism than produces complex organic compounds( carbohydrates,fat and proteins)from simple substances present in their sorroundings,usually using energy from light(photosyntesis) or inorganic chemical reactions( chemosynthesis).They are the producers in a food chain such as plants on land and algae in water.


aesthetic: means related to the way things look. A reason to preserve a tropical rainforest is for its aesthetic value, ie. its beauty.


Environmentalism: an interest in or the study of the environment, in order to protect it from damage by human activities.

Acid Rain : rains that contains harmful chemicals that collect in the atmosphere when fossil fuels are burned .

Dumping ( verb) : placing waste in an area that is not appropriate ( example dumping chemicals in oceans ).

Smog : air pollution caused by a reaction between chemicals in the atmosphere and sunlight.

Endangered species : is a species of organisms facing a very high risk of extinction.

Exhaust fumes : is a gas emitted as a result of the combustion of fuels such as natural gas , petrol , fuel oil or coal


*Global warming: a gradual increase in world temperatures caused by polluting gases such as carbon dioxide which are collecting in the air around the Earth and preventing heat scaping into space.

*Oil-slick: a mass of floating oil covering a area of water, especially oil that has leaked or been discharged from a ship.

*Habitat: the environment in which species normally live of the location of a living organism.

*Deforestation: the cutting down of trees in a large area; the destruction of forests by people.

*Recycle waste:to collect and treat rubbish to produce useful materials which can be used again.
